James Edward Stewart January 20, 1924 - March 15, 2013

James Edward Stewart, a 67-year resident of Glendale and most recently Pasadena, died Friday, March 15. He was 89. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Shirley Jean Webb of East Liverpool, OH, who he married in 1946 in Glendale.

Born January 20, 1924 in Chester,WV, he served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945 and was stationed in Iceland, Italy, France, Germany and Africa. He then graduated from West Virginia University with a B.A. degree in bacteriology and biochemistry in 1948 and went on to earn his M.S. degree in bacteriology and biochemistry from the University of Southern California in 1950.

Jimmy spent 29 years at the Pabst Brewing Company, serving as general manager of the Los Angeles Division for seven years. He went on to become vice president of production and services for Arrowhead Puritas Waters in Los Angeles, retiring in 1985.

During his 36-year professional career he served as chairman of the national technical committee, editor of the “Technical Quarterly” and president of the Southern California District of the Master Brewers Association of America; a board member of the Merchants & Manufacturers Association; member of the executive committees of the Los Angeles Safety Council, The Southern California Businessmen’s Association and Los Angeles Beautiful; chairman of the technical committee of the American Bottled Water Association; and a member of the American Society of Brewing Chemists, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Los Angeles and the National Conference of Christian and Jews. He also was active in the Grandview Presbyterian Church in Glendale.

He is survived by his son Kirk Stewart; his daughterin- law JaNae Stewart; his sister, Ann Louise Humphreys of East Liverpool, OH; his nephews David Kerr and James Kerr; and his three grandchildren, Michael, Stephen and Samantha.

Amemorial service will be held on April 10 at 2 p.m. at the Grandview Presbyterian Church in Glendale.
