Karl H. Ways, Jr. of Glendale, California, passed away on Father’s Day, June 16, 2013 at the age of 84. He was born in Newton, Massachusetts, December 27, 1928.

During his early years he and his best friend formed a business selling Maine Lobster meat to resorts and restaurants in Cape Cod. To his credit, he then financed his education at Brown University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. During a brief stint in the Air Force, they used his skills on special assignments. He joined International Business Machines when IBM was jokingly referred to as “I’ve Been Moved”. And moved, he and his wife Ann did, primarily in the East Coastal States and subsequently to California. He was a good leader and put managerial skills to good use for 30 years before taking early retirement. Then the lure of the ocean meant travels with focus on the “hunt and find” of all things nautical, with special attention to history and provenance. He had a great love of country, sports, reading and discovery. He was a loyal friend and a handshake was like an irrevocable trust in one another. As a long time stroke survivor, he had a total determination for continued improvement and enjoyed a rigid fitness regime even up to the moment of his passing. Just three days before his death, he and Ann celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. He was a donor to “One Legacy” to benefit others. Life had been full of travel, boating, scuba diving adventures, and sport fishing trips. There were many happy “Catch and Release” days on his boat in the Gulf of Mexico, so he will be returning to his first love…the ocean.

There will be a “Celebration of Life” in California and then at a later time a personal “Release” in the Florida waters he so loved.

In addition to his wife Ann, he leaves two brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law and nieces and nephews.
