Lorraine (Tetsell) Marsteller

Lorraine (Tetsell) Marsteller gently passed away on Thursday, June 6th. She was 94.

She was born in Sterling, Colorado on the day World War I ended, the first “Armistice Day,” November 11th, 1918 to Albert H. and Ethel (Rhine) Tetsell. She graduated from Sterling’s Logan County High School in 1936 and received a scholarship in mathematics to Colorado State College of Education, Greeley, CO. She finished her college degree in 1941 majoring in Elementary Education with minors in music and art.

In June of 1944 she married Robert L. Marsteller who was serving in the Navy during W.W. II. In November of 1945 they moved to a home on 117th Street in south Los Angeles and had three children. In 1957 they moved to their home on Paulette Place in La Cañada.

Lorraine was very active in the community. She was a member of the National Assistance League of Flintridge, the Junior Philharmonic Committee, Pasadena Philharmonic Committee, Coleman Chamber Music Women’s Committee, Faculty Wives (University of Southern California), Town and Gown, La Cañada Thursday Club, Town and Country Fine Arts Club, Pasadena Area Youth Music Council, Orchestra Wives Club, Music Mother’s Club, P.T.A., Pasadena Arts Council, La Cañada Presbyterian Church (a member of the “Clippers” and serving as Deacon) and Pi Kappa Sigma Alumnae of Southern California.

She was preceded in death by Robert, her husband of 31 years and her daughter Marlys. Her surviving sons are Loren and Duane Marsteller. A memorial service and reception will be held at La Cañada Presbyterian Church on Friday, August 2nd at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Robert Marsteller Memorial Endowed Music Award at the Thornton School of Music, University of Southern California.
