Perry C. Ghiglia

Perry C. Ghiglia, age 104, of Longmont, CO, passed away of natural causes at the Beatrice Hover Assisted Living Center on July 7, 2013. Mrs. Ghiglia was born September 29, 1908 in Gallup, NM to James and Margaret (Berta) Barrell. Perry lived in Glendale, CA from the age of 16 to 1931. In 1928 she won the Miss Glendale, CA title and part of her prize was an airplane flight with two well-known movie stars of the time: Bebe Daniels and Ben Lyons. Perry married Carlo D. Ghiglia on April 11, 1931 in Glendale, CA. The young couple built a beautiful home in Burbank, CA, which they shared until Carlo died in 1986. Perry continued to live in the home until she moved to Longmont in 2009 to be close to family.

Perry enjoyed two hobbies, gardening and cooking. It has been said that no one can cook Italian like her. Her family was everything to her.

Survivors include one son Dennis Carl Ghiglia and his wife RuthAnn of Longmont; two grandchildren, Dan Ghiglia and his wife Amber of Firestone and Carla Mathers and her husband Grant of Longmont. Four great grandchildren survive: Lance Mathers, age 9 of Longmont; Madison Ghiglia, age 8 of Firestone; Lexi Mathers, age 7 of Longmont and Dominic Ghiglia, age 4 of Firestone. Preceding Perry in death were her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Hover Manor All Faith’s Chapel with Deacon Bob Howard officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills Cemetery in California. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, which was one of her favorite charities in care of Howe Mortuary.
