Longtime Glendale, Ca. resident Wanda Mock, died peacefully in her sleep in La Crescenta, Ca. on July 11, 2013 with family at her side. Born Wanda Joan Dewhart on October 13, 1930 in Cicero, Illinois, Wanda boldly moved to Los Angeles in 1953 all by herself looking for the California dream and found it. Her first home in California was an apartment on Sunset Blvd in West Hollywood with her first Thanksgiving in Los Angeles consisting of a 75-degree afternoon with friends. In 1956 she met and married Charles Mock and soon built a beautiful family in Glendale, California. Wanda had 4 sisters, Dorothy, Eileen, Karen and Carol. Wanda loved to read, cook amazing Hungarian dishes, and was a huge fan of the game show “Jeopardy” in which she would regularly trounce the on-air contestants. Wanda’s first career was in the garment industry working for Campus Casuals in the late 50’s / early 60’s. She later went on to enjoy a career working for Security Pacific Bank in operations during the evenings so she could be with her boys during the day while they were growing up.

Wanda was diagnosed with Emphysema in 2000 had been living at Twelve Oaks Senior living community in La Crescenta until time of her passing. She made many friends at Twelve Oaks and was lovingly referred to as “The Den Mother” there. Although her death was not anticipated so soon, it was on her own terms and with great faith in God.

Her sons Russell, Larry and wife Tia, sisters Karen and Carol, and grandchildren Sarah, Danny and Grace survive and will greatly miss Wanda.

A memorial celebration of her life will be held on October 13th at Descanso Gardens in La Canada, Ca. from 1-4pm in the Maple room. All friends and family are invited to celebrate her life and stay to enjoy the gardens that she frequently took her young boys to.
