Harley Schuning, aged 92, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2013 in Burbank, California. He was born in southwest Iowa to a farming family and was the son of Edith and John Schuning. After serving in World War II, he returned to Iowa where he met Marilyn Conner, whom he married in 1951. They moved to California in 1953 and settled in Glendale. Harley worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for the State of California, a position he held until his retirement in 1984. He was active in Little League, the Boy Scouts of America and volunteered for the Burbank Meals on Wheels program for almost 10 years. His true passion, however, was gardening; being outdoors was the place where he felt most at ease. Harley is survived by his son John Schuning, and by his sisters Darlene Felton and Betty Barrier. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, his brother Pete and his sisters Mabel Wise and Myra Peterson.
