Helma Melikian - Former PTA president dies at 84

Longtime Burbank resident Helma Melikian passed away peacefully on October 14 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family. Services were held last Friday.

Helma was born in Cologne, Germany on October 11, 1929 and eventually immigrated to Canada. She settled in Los Angeles in the 1950s where she met her late husband, Armen. They were married in 1962 and raised two sons, Mark and Andre.

Helma was active as on officer in the PTA, holding the position of President multiple times, volunteered for various school activities and was a member of the John Burroughs High School football Booster Club.

Later in life Helma found a passion for traveling and was able to see many parts of the world. She became an active participant with the Sierra Club and at Burbank’s Joslyn Adult Center.

Helma is survived by her sons Mark and Andre Melikian, their wives Maria and Tamyra and four grandchildren, Olivia, Luke, Tyler and Eva.
