Historical Society to host last candlelight tour of season
The Glendale Historical Society plans to host its last candlelight tour of the Doctor’s House Museum this Saturday this season.
Begun in 1994, the candlelight tours were created in order to let visitors experience what the holidays were like for people living in Glendale in the 1800s, said Sean Bersell, executive director of The Glendale Historical Society.
The $5 tours are self-guided and include musical entertainment by the Pasadena Conservatory of Music.
The Doctor’s House in Brand Park is a restored Queen Anne-Eastlake style home built around 1888 in Central Glendale. Several doctors as well as silent film actor Nell Shipman occupied the house at different periods.
“The house comes to life in a festive way and people walk away feeling the spirit of the holidays as every sensory is stimulated through music, food, and candles,” Bersell said.
Except for the candlelight tours, the Doctor’s House Museum will be closed during December. Normal operating hours will begin on Jan. 5.
