Community: Correcting facts in story on reptiles

A reader sent me an email last week following the item in my last column about the Las Candelas’ assembly on reptiles at Hillsides Education Center in Pasadena. Bruce Shwedick, the director of Reptile Discovery Programs, based in Plant City, Fla., corrected the information that was provided to me by Las Candelas.

One of the reptiles introduced from the snake family was “Jade,” a green anaconda. She was 9 feet long and weighed about 18 pounds. The green anaconda grows to be the heaviest member of the boa constrictor family.

The presenter also brought out an albino reticulated python named “Java Kaa.” It weighed 45 pounds and was 13 feet long. His scales are very soft and smooth. His coloring is not completely white like you’d think of an albino, but he has many bright yellow markings all the way down his body and has a completely yellow head.
