Community: Teen girls assist charitable endeavors

Share

The Assisteens, a subgroup of Assistance League Glendale, participated in two service projects over the holidays.

The teenage girls decorated the pediatric ward of City of Hope Hospital in Duarte, said member Rachel Achterman.

“We do this through the Desi Geestman Foundation, a nonprofit organization devoted to improving the lives of children who have been diagnosed with cancer,” she said. “Painting windows and hanging ornaments and other decorations are ways that we brighten up the building for the holiday season.”

The Assisteens also helped take prizes to winners and performed other tasks for the league’s annual Festival of Trees. This fundraiser features drawings for decorated Christmas trees and other holiday decorations.

The proceeds benefit several charity projects, including Operation School Bell, YWCA Domestic Violence Program, scholarships, Foster Friends Backpacks, Senior Neighborhood Fellowship, Baby Bundles and several others.
