Gene Elbert Spillman October 16, 1922 - January 23, 2014

Gene Spillman of La Crescenta, CA, passed away at his home on January 23, 2014. Gene was born in Julesburg, Colorado, the son of Harry Spillman and Amelia Peterson Spillman. He graduated from Sedgwick County High in 1940 and attended Barnes Business College in Denver, Colorado.

Gene enlisted in the aviation cadet program of the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. He graduated as a Lieutenant on May 23, 1944, and served as pilot and bombardier trainer.

Gene married Loretta Maxine Walters, whom he met at Barnes Business College, on November 13, 1943, at Fort Worth, Texas. Gene and Maxine moved to Holyoke, CO, where he flew as a crop-duster and gave flight lessons.

In 1951, they relocated to Los Angeles, CA, where he worked for Pacific Bell Telephone for over 30 years. He and Maxine were avid square dancers, helping to form the Foothillbillies Square Dance Club, and enjoyed traveling in their trailer to great fishing spots after his retirement.

Gene is survived by Maxine, his beloved wife of 70 years, son David & wife Deanne of Bothell, Washington, daughters Candyce Walker of Castaic, & Debra Spillman of Encino.

Per Mr. Spillman’s request, no services were held, with cremation and inurnment at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills.
