Alan Boyd Lowrie March 14, 1944 - February 11, 2014

Retired Burbank Firefighter Alan (“Big Al”) Lowrie, age 69 of Glendora, passed away at San Dimas Hospital, February 11th. Born in Park Falls, Wisconsin, his Family moved to Burbank when he was a young Boy. He attended Mingay ES, Luther Burbank JH and graduated from John Burroughs High School, Class of 1962. He served in the US Army, during the Vietnam War, 1965-1968. He worked over 30 years on the Burbank Fire Department, retiring as an Engineer. He acquired his love and talent for cooking from his Mother, Laura. He was the resident Fire House Cook and so loved cooking his famous Chili for his fellow Firefighters, he was inspired to start the Burbank Chili Cook Offs in the late 1970’s. He was passionate about classic car rebuilding and drag racing. He was a Member of The Burbank Road Kings. In 1988 he won the NHRA Winter Nationals with his 1941 Studebaker. He was a friend to everyone he met, always willing to help someone in need and a grand story teller. He will be remembered by his Sister, Norma Goodreau, his two Daughters, Juliet Lowrie-Gerber & Kellie Orozco, his Son, Shane Lowrie and two Grandchildren, Liliana Gerber & Evan Orozco. His ashes will be scattered at El Mirage Dry Lake bed, where he loved to drag race.
