“Hap”, as he was known to everyone, passed away peacefully at home. A long-time resident of La Canada, Hap was a native of WI. He was a Chem. Eng. with a BS from UW, a MS from USC, and a MBA from CSULA. Hap started his career with ARCO in the mid 60’s. In 1976, he joined The Ralph M. Parsons Co. in Pasadena as a Sr. Process Engineer, and in 1986 became VP, and Dir.& Mgr. of the Technology Dept. He had over 34 years of management and engineering experience in the oil, gas & petroleum industry. Hap loved challenges and had a great passion for his work; he was an expert in hydroprocessing & sulfur recovery. He authored many papers on petroleum refining, gas treating & sulfur recovery, thermodynamics, and CO2 recovery. He also held patents for high activity catalyst for direct reduction of H2S to sulfur. In 2003, Hap retired from Parsons and pursuing entrepreneurial ventures, he started his own consulting business while teaching at CSULB. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Pilar; son, Leo; stepsons, Juan and Omar; daughters, Deborah and Jeanne; sister, Annie Pedersen; niece Maggie, nephew Paul, and four grandchildren. A wonderful husband and terrific father, he was and will be forever loved and profoundly missed. Cabot & Sons in Pasadena.
