Many in the operatic world in Southern California are mourning the recent loss of Doyle Al Kutch who has now joined the Heavenly Choir; probably not as a singer, but certainly as a SUPERnumerary.

Through his father, Doyle was a member of the Shoshone/ Bannock Tribe of Fort Hall, Idaho, where Doyle was born. His father Al Whipple Kutch and his mother Fern Virginia Ferrin had three children. Predeceased by a younger brother, David Eugene Kutch, he is survived by a sister, Cheryl Patricia Beatty, her husband William H. Beatty, three cherished Beatty nephews Michael Glen, Brian Scott, Dale Russell and a niece, Marilyn Bighorse Reed plus 17 great and 5 great great nieces and nephews.

Always affiliated with L.D.S., Doyle received a B.A. in Business Administration from Brigham Young University, and he specialized in education management for over 25 years. Following a stint in the U.S. Army (Ft. Lewis, Washington), Doyle was employed by the L. A. Community College District and subsequently by the Secondary and Elementary Teachers Organization (SETO).

Doyle never knew the meaning of the word “No”.

His music-related accomplishments include actively supporting and participating in the Opera Guild of So. Calif. (President), Metropolitan Opera National Council Western Region (Board and Opera Showcase of the Desert), L.A. Friends of San Diego Opera (Co-chairman), USC Friends of Music, The Loren L. Zachary Society, Opera Buffs and Opera Associates.

As a resident of Los Angeles County since 1964, his activities include the Casa Adobe de San Rafael (Primary Docent and officer), Arbor Day participant, Glendale Beautiful (President), Glendale Rose Float Association and the Glendale Historical Society’s Doctor’s House.

His other community organizations include the Windsor Square-Hancock Park Historical Society (Officer, Trustee and Advisory Board) and the Calif.Assoc. for Childhood Education.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, May 4, at 2:00 p.m. at the Casa Adobe de San Rafael, 1330 Dorothy Drive, Glendale. Condolences may be sent to pattibeatty@cox.net. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Doyle’s name to a musical organization of your choice.

“…..It broke our hearts to lose you,
but you didn’t go alone,
For part of us went with you
the day God took you home….”
