Community: Have a taste while helping children

Share

Taste of Downtown Glendale returns from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. this Wednesday along Brand Boulevard and benefits the nonprofit Glendale Healthy Kids, which provides medical services for underprivileged children and families.

Sharon Townsend, the organization’s chief executive, said last year the organization provided 550 medical services for children, including doctor appointments, dental care, orthodontia, vision and school physicals by nearly 200 volunteer healthcare providers.

Also, 3,200 first-grade students — all in the district — received dental education three times during the school year.

In addition, the organization’s health fair in April provided services for more than 500 families. During the November all-city health fair, a collaboration with the Armenian American Medical Society, healthcare services were provided for more than 1,500 people.

At the Taste of Downtown Glendale, entertainment will be at three locations. Dan Beers will be performing at the Alex Theatre, the Glendale Community College Jazz Band will be at the Chess Park and the Crescenta Valley High School Jazz Band will perform in the California Pizza Kitchen Plaza.

Tickets are $25 for food only, $30 for food and wine, $10 for ages 18 and younger and free for children 5 and younger. For tickets, stop by the Alex Theatre box office, or go online to GlendaleArts.org/Event/TasteofGlendale or call (818) 243-2539 or call Glendale Healthy Kids at (818) 548-7931.
