Glendale area events: Alex Theater to host ninth annual “Greatest Cartoons Ever” Hall of Fame event

The Alex Film Society will host its ninth annual “Greatest Cartoons Ever” event at 2 and 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, at the Alex Theatre, 216 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale.

Cartoons starring Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Tom and Jerry and others are scheduled to be shown. Tickets for Alex Film Society members cost $12. Tickets for the general public at $13.

Bookstore to host classical music performance

A musical performance by the Pogossian Family Ensemble will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, in ABRIL bookstore, 415 E. Broadway, Glendale.

Family members Movses, Varty, Edward, Cara and Anoush Pogossian will perform works by Mozart, Komitas, Khachaturian and Johann Strauss.

Admission will be $20. A portion of the proceeds from the performance will go toward the Music for Food nonprofit organization.

Community College to host performance of the Snow Queen

A ballet performance of “The Snow Queen” will be presented from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, as well as 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29, at Glendale Community College, 1500 N. Verdugo Road, Glendale.

“The Snow Queen” ballet is based on a story by Hans Christian Andersen.

Art center to host piano trio

The Brand Library & Art Center will host a musical performance at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Brand Library, 1601 W. Mountain St., Glendale.

The free concert will feature a musical group made up of violinist Samvel Chilingarian, cellist Fang Fang Xu and pianist Lucy Nargizyan.

Glendale department to host volunteer event

The Glendale Community Services and Parks Department will host a volunteer cleanup event from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Glendale Narrows Riverwalk, 300 Paula Ave., Glendale.

Volunteers participating will be responsible for weeding and maintaining the landscaped areas at the park as well as cleaning the bike trail. No experience is needed, and individuals of all ages are welcome to join. An RSVP is needed for groups of 10 or larger.
