Glendale area events: Concert to feature cellist

The Glendale Noon Concert series will present a musical performance by cellist Maksim Velichkin from 12:10 to 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, in the sanctuary at Glendale City Church, 610 E. California Ave., Glendale.

He will perform solo works by Giovanni Gabrieli, Matthew Hetz, Scott Lasky and George N. Gianopoulos.

An aerial photography exhibit is on display at the Forest Lawn Museum

An exhibit called “The Elevated Eye: Aerial Photography Past and Present” will be on display through March 8 at the Forest Lawn Museum, 1712 S. Glendale Ave., Glendale.

The exhibit features aerial photography works from the 19th century into the 21st century. Both photos and videos are featured in the exhibit.

Organization to hold community candidate forum

The Glendale chapter of the Armenian National Committee of America will host a forum for candidates running for Glendale City Council at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Glendale Youth Center, 211 W. Chestnut St., Glendale.

Candidates expected to participate include Greg Astorian, Dan Brotman, Paula Devine, Vartan Gharpetian, Ardy Kassakhian and Leonard Manoukian.

Teahouse to host first tea event of the year

An event called “Hatsu Gama First Tea of the Year” will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, at the Shoseian Teahouse, 1601 W. Mountain St., Glendale.

The first tea seating will be at 11 a.m., and the second tea seating will be at noon. The event costs $20 per person.

Republican Assembly to hold dinner and presentation

The Glendale Burbank Crescenta Valley Republican Assembly will hold a dinner and presentation from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the La Crescenta Women’s Clubhouse, 4004 La Crescenta Ave., La Crescenta.

Along with dinner and a presentation by Jeff Klein, manager for voter education, outreach and management for Los Angeles County, there will be an opportunity to try out L.A. County’s new touch-screen voting machines. Those wanting to attend must RSVP. Individual tickets cost $25, couples’ tickets cost $40 and student tickets cost $10.

City council candidate forum slated

A forum for candidates running for Glendale City Council will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Verdugo Woodlands Dads’ Club, 1728 Canada Blvd.

The event will be presented by the Verdugo Woodlands West Homeowners Assn. and Verdugo Woodlands Dads’ Club. Frank Quintero, City Council member and former Mayor, will moderate the forum.

String quartet to perform at art center

A musical performance will be presented at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Brand Library and Art Center, 1601 W. Mountain St., Glendale.

The performance will feature the Argus Quartet, which is made up of violinist Clara Kim, violinist Giancarlo Latta, viola player Maren Rothfritz and cellist Joann Whang.

Glendale service program to remember Marc Stirdivant

An event called “Lend a Hand at Brand Service Day in Memory of Marc Stirdivant” will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 25, in Brand Park, 1601 W. Mountain St., Glendale.

Volunteers will be taking care of trail maintenance and removing invasive plants.

Stirdivant, a former city of Glendale employee who helped bring in millions of grant dollars to support local park projects as well as being a longtime supporter of local trails and open space, passed away in August.

Nonprofit organization to host free educational fair at hospital

The “Equipped for the Future” educational fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb.1, at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, 1812 Verdugo Blvd., Glendale.

The event, created by the nonprofit Asian Industry B2B, is for high school students, middle school students as well as students entering a skilled trade.

Park to hold children’s story time event

An event called “Storytime at Maple Park” will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, on the second floor of the gymnasium at the Maple Park Community Center, 820 E. Maple Ave., Glendale.

This event will also be held on March 11, April 8 and May 13 at the same time.
