Folk singer and actor Richard Byford is among the musical acts performing for the benefit of the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena. The concert on June 12 is being presented to raise funds to support keeping the intimate musical venue’s doors open.

Byford is host of “On the Village Green” podcast and a previous Grammy nominee. He will be joined at the benefit by Bill Berry and His Band, performing songs from his upcoming album, “Awkward Stage,” performed with Ed Tree, Robert Riblett and Jim Kersey & Brian Klock. Also performing will be Bill Burnett.

The Coffee Gallery Backstage is at 2029 Lake Ave. in Altadena. Showtime is 7 p.m. Tickets are $15. For reservations, call (626) 798-6236.

Artists Show

The Brand Library & Art Center is calling for submissions to its “44th Annual Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper.” Cash awards connected to the Glendale venue’s show will total more than $4,000, and each piece will be included in a published exhibition catalog.

The deadline is June 17. Up to three entries per artist will be accepted. The entry fee is $30 for the first entry, plus $15 for each additional piece.

The show is open to works on paper, which could include paintings, drawings, collages, photography, three-dimensional works and more. Artists must reside in the U.S., and the work must be recent and not previously exhibited. Winning artists will be notified on July 5 that their work has been chosen.

The exhibition will open on Sept. 24 with an awards ceremony and close on Oct. 28. Artist Laddie John Dill is this year’s juror.

Artists with questions about entering can contact Debra Thompson, the Brand 44 Exhibition Chair, at debra@associatesofbrand.org.

Showtime at Summer Camp

Two local summer camp programs for child actors are still open to student enrollments. At the A Noise Within classical repertory theater company, “Summer With Shakespeare” offers five weeks of dramatic learning and performing, beginning June 13.

At A Noise Within, kids aged 6 to 18 learn acting, improvisation, stage diction, stage combat and more from classically trained actors, choreographers and designers. Along the way, students learn the language and meaning of Shakespeare’s greatest works.

The program concludes with live performance on the Pasadena theater’s main stage, including the works “The Play’s the Thing” and “The Comedy of Errors.” For more information, contact Alicia Green, at (626) 356-3104 or education@anoisewithin.org.

Nearby, “Panto Camp at the Playhouse” offers a summer camp hosted by the Pasadena Playhouse and Lythgoe Family Productions, offering kids ages 8 to 13 a week of song, dance and improvisation. The interactive week has kids exploring modernized versions of Grimm fairy tales and other stories. The Panto Camp offers two separate sessions on July 18 to 23, and July 25 to 30.

The cost is $425 per child, with an “early bird” rate at $390 (through May 2). More information at (626) 737-2867 and PantoCamp@pasadenaplayhouse.org.
