Music scholarship competition offered

Auditions for the 64th annual music scholarship competition, sponsored by the Pasadena Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, will be held April 2 at Los Angeles Valley College, 5800 Fulton Ave., Van Nuys.

Auditions for the awards are open to music majors at a four-year college, university or music conservatory in Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

Three scholarships, at $600 for each award, will be offered in the areas of piano, vocal and instrumental study. Students must be between the ages 18 to 25 on the day of the competition. The application deadline is March 19.

Venture Crew Scouts have car show

The Boy Scout Venture Crew will present its free “Treaty For Your Sweetie” Valentine’s Car Show from noon to 4 p.m. today at Fosters Freeze, 201 S. Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank.

On display will be antiques, classics or special interests, which may include new muscle cars of today, such as the Dodge Challenger or Chevy Camaro, said organizer Jim Etter. There is no admission or entry fee for vehicles or guests at the meet.

Music from the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s will be playing in the background as a mystery agent will roam passing out certificates for free Fosters dessert items, such as cones, shakes and sundaes, to those spotted wearing outfits depicting those generations.

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Fosters will also be offering a “Treaty For You Sweaty” — buy any dessert item (cone, shake, sundae) and get another like item for your sweetheart for half price.

Jewel of Glendale award nominations due

The deadline for nominations for the Commission on the Status of Women’s 2011 Jewel of Glendale Award is Feb. 18. The Woman of Courage Award recognizes Glendale’s outstanding women by shining a spotlight on their extraordinary achievements in the face of overwhelming hardships they have overcome. Awardees will be recognized at the seventh annual Jewels of Glendale event on May 5.

Girl Scouts host Tasting Bee

Crescenta Valley/Glendale Girl Scouts host the 27th annual “International Tasting Bee” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 20 at Holy Redeemer Church, 2411 Montrose Ave., Montrose.

Girl Scouts from the area will be hosting booths representing countries from around the world. The public will see the costumes, learn the languages and taste the food. There will be a silent auction with items such as an American Girl Doll, Disneyland tickets and opportunity drawings. For more information, call Kaila Toone at (818) 808-3205. Cost is $8 per person.

Aid center annual dinner set

The annual Burbank Temporary Aid Center Dinner honoring the Walt Disney Co. will be on March 4.

Tickets are $100 and may be purchased from the center or through the website beginning Feb. 14.

Guild plans spring card party luncheon

Providence St. Joseph Medical Center Guild will have its Spring Card Party and Luncheon from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 2 at Lakeside Golf Club, 4500 Lakeside Drive, Toluca Lake.
