Glendale group one of top chapters

The Verdugo Glen Chapter of the American Business Women’s Assn. has been chosen as one of the most successful chapters in the United States, it was announced during the group’s conference in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Verdugo Glen President Lynn White-Shelby of Burbank, Vice President Marty Preciado of Tujunga and Recording Secretary Laurali Fey of Glendale accepted the Best Practices Level III award from the national officers in recognition of the association’s highest level of achievement and group management.

The Glendale chapter won the honor for the third consecutive year. Fifty-five of 550 chapters in the United States received the “Best Practices for Group Management” seal.

Panhellenic holds scholarship event

The Glendale Area Alumnae Panhellenic recently had its annual scholarship luncheon at The La Cañada Thursday Club. Proceeds will be used to award scholarship grants to qualified, college-bound, high school senior women from 10 private and public high schools and college sorority women who meet requirements.

The high school scholarships are available to young women who have resided in Glendale, Burbank, La Cañada Flintridge, La Crescenta and Montrose during their high school years, or who are graduating from one of the public or private high schools in one of these cities. Fliers are available at the high school counselor’s office and information is available on the website.

La Providencia installs officers

La Providencia Guild of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles installed officers in March at Lakeside Golf Club. Chairwoman Nancy Johnson and her committee decorated the room with a Parisian theme, French wine and red roses, to set the theme for the guild’s May 21 Cotillion, “An Evening in Paris.”

Following officers’ annual reports, Sharon Terranova, outgoing president, passed the gavel to new President Judy Gragg and new board officers were installed by Sue Ann Gordon. Other officers include First Vice President Nancy Johnson, Second Vice President Dolly Monte, Secretary Joan Chandler, Treasurer Pat Maskell and Public Relations Lynn White-Shelby.

New Provisional members Glenda Jones and Malena Tappan were welcomed, along with new Associate Members Janel Clausen, Kate Fitzpatrick, Linda Gardner, Lina Hariz, Janet Jack, Nada Kaidbey, Sue Meckley, Lori Roth, Janet Sedhom, Pet Setti, Janice Shafer, Marje Semay, Teri Sumner and Nancy Wiggins.

Suzanne Lapis, director of the Associates & Affiliates of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, reported on the successful efforts of La Providencia Guild and the other 38 area groups in raising funds for the hospital. She noted that the “VIP Symposium Luncheon and Private Tour” of the new hospital building will be held May 24, with official opening on July 11.
