Chamlian School donates to Japan relief

Chamlian Armenian School donated a total of $2,440 to the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund through the Armenian Relief Society on May 4 to assist with the ongoing efforts in Japan following the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster.

Armenian Relief Society Regional Executive Member Christine Keshishian and American Relief Society Regional General Manager Jasik Jarahian, were present to receive the check.

The school first raised a total of $1,080 by encouraging students to place their donations in a collection box on campus. To add to that total, the school received an additional donation of $1,360 from a group of fifth- and sixth-grade Chamlian students who had organized a garage sale to raise funds for the victims in Japan. The garage sale was held on May 1 in the parking lot of Prudential Realty of California in Glendale. Students made fliers and T-shirts to advertise the event.

The owners of Prudential Realty, Chamlian parents Rick and Jouliet Bonyadi, matched the students’ sale amount of $680 to bring the total to $1,360.
