Organizations: Altrusa inducts first male members

Share

Altrusa of Glendale inducted Tim Moore and Bill Tharp as the organization’s first male members at a recent meeting. Spouses of current members Sandra Moore and Rose Tharp, Tim and Bill have been supporting Altrusa for years.

When asked to join Altrusa, Sandra Moore was surprised when Tim Moore replied, “Yes, I’ll join. I like the work Altrusa does for the community.”

The men often socialize while attending Altrusa’s events and even carpooled to Santa Maria to meet their wives at the organization’s annual conference in 2006. For the past two years, Tim’s most notable contribution has been cooking the main entrée at Altrusa’s Summer Social & Bingo Party – his famous BBQ ribs.

Bill Tharp took it for granted that he, too, was part of the Altrusa Club of Glendale by doing whatever was needed of him. He knows all the club members by first name, attends all the functions and sometimes represents Rose when she is unable to attend. He believes in Altrusa’s ideals and promotes the club at every opportunity, he said.

Club President Barbara Winsor said she is both honored and thrilled to have such an event occur during her tenure. While both men have been regular attendees and active participants at almost all of the club events and activities, the entire club is thrilled to add Bill and Tim to the official membership roster.

The Altrusa Club of Glendale welcomes new members who would like the opportunity to fulfill needs in the community, improve the quality of life and unite the community in spirit. For more information about Altrusa, call (818) 808-4993.
