“Mr. Glendale” returns to speak at rotary

Sheldon Baker who served as the mayor of Glendale in the 1990s, plus eight years on the City Council and 10 years on the Glendale School Board visited the Glendale Noon Rotary Club on Thursday, Sept. 6.

Sheldon brought the Club up to speed on the challenges the city faced in the 1990s and early 2000s. He reflected on the budget solutions in those times and compared them with the challenges the City faces in today’s economy.

He also talked about the impact Proposition 13 had on school district budgeting. In closing, Sheldon expressed his concern about the loss of statesmanship in politicians in both Sacramento and Washington, DC.

The Club meeting then shifted to future activities. The Club has volunteered to work on decorating the Rotary Rose Parade Float on December 3. The members all marked their calendars to work on the float. This is the 34th consecutive year Rotarians have built a float for the parade. The decorating is all done by volunteers, and they spend no charity money to build the float.
