Soroptomist to award financial support

Soroptimist International of Glendale will present checks that total $20,000 to 13 organizations serving women and girls at its annual luncheon on Thursday at the Glendale Hilton.

The following organizations to receive financial support include:

American Association of University Women; Ark Family Center; Commission on the Status of Women; Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services; Door of Hope; GAR Services; Girl Scouts; Girls on the Run; Glendale Unified School District; Salvation Army; Walter Hoving Home; YWCA of Glendale and Soroptimist International of the Americas.

Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. The Glendale club identifies the needs of the community, and then establishes projects that best address these specific needs.

Local organizations are invited to submit applications for funds in late summer, and the group chooses among those applications to provide funds in December.
