Oakmont League names new president

The Oakmont League of Glendale named Judy Mendicina as President.

This year’s theme for the organization, selected by Mendicina, is “Friendship, Laughter and Teamwork.”

Mendicina has been a member of the league since 2004. Serving with her on the board are Linda Malmquist, Nina Ratliff, Monica Sierra, Donna Sauer, Chris Haliajian, Mary Broerman, Jeri Benton, Caryolyn Beaton, Lynn Dittrick, Natalie Graw, Marlene Hirt, Barbara McCullough, Ellen Farewell, Allison Weir and Chloe Ross.

In 1940, the league was established to cultivate lasting relationships among people who assisted philanthropic organizations.

The Oakmont League provides area high schools and students of Glendale College with scholarships.

Since 1940, the league has also provided a Christmas dinner to the blind.

Other organizations benefited by the league include the Glendale YWCA, the Hillside Learning Center and Glendale Healthy Kids.

The league’s annual fundraising event — a fashion show — will be held at the Universal City Sheraton hotel on March 6.
