Community: Sheriff’s Explorers excel in crime-fighting competition

The Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station Explorers achieved honors in the 2013 X Games on Saturday, which were hosted by the Learning for Life subsidiary of the Boy Scouts.

There were 22 posts and approximately 400 police Explorers competing in various crime-fighting scenarios.

The Crescenta Valley Explorers placed first in “Officer Ambush,” “Felony Traffic Stop” and “Burglary Now” competitions. They placed third in “High Risk Warrant,” “DUI Traffic Stop” and “Active Shooter,” with fourth-place finishes in “Domestic Violence,” “Crime Scene Investigations” and “Suspicious Persons.”

The Explorers who competed were Capt. Christian Herrera, Lt. Thomas Halaszynski and Explorers Jeremiah Seidman, Grigor Kasabyan, Vicken Shahbazian, Richard Grandes, Kevin Lentz, Dillian Williams, Michael Murphy-Dimen and Shannon Snyder.

The Crescenta Valley Explorers train every Monday in preparation for their competitions. This year alone, they have earned 18 trophies in three competitions.
