Attempted murder and robbery charges were filed Thursday against a 30-year-old Canyon Country man accused of robbing and assaulting a Glendale woman at gunpoint, and then fleeing from police, officials said.
Robert Elias Taylor was charged with one count each of attempted willful, deliberate and premeditated murder, second-degree robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of ammunition, fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s motor vehicle while driving recklessly and receiving stolen property exceeding $950 in value, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
The criminal complaint alleged that he used a semiautomatic handgun to commit the first two crimes.
Around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the 1100 block of South Glendale Avenue, where the assault had left the woman with a head injury, said Glendale Police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.
She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, officers attempted to stop Taylor, who was driving in the area and matched the suspect description, but he fled. A pursuit ensued and ended in Los Angeles, where Taylor was arrested.
Footage obtained by NBC Los Angeles showed the pursuit end when Taylor hit a dead end and collided with patrol cars after making a U-turn.
Taylor subsequently climbed out of a car window and fled on foot across the street, where officers caught up with him and took him into custody.
As of Thursday evening, the victim remained hospitalized in stable condition. Further details on the assault were not available.
Taylor, whose prior convictions include arson and twice being a felon in possession of a firearm, is slated to be arraigned on Friday. Prosecutors recommended that bail be set at about $1.1 million.
The investigation is ongoing.
