Glendale police convince hospital patient not to jump from freeway overpass
Police convinced a 56-year-old man not to jump off the east Ventura (134) and north Glendale (2) freeway interchange on Tuesday afternoon after he straddled the railing.
Medical personnel were evaluating the man for depression at the Glendale Adventist Medical Center when he left the hospital and fled toward the freeway, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.
Hospital officials and witnesses reported seeing him at the freeway interchange and straddling the railing, seemingly preparing to jump.
Officers, however, were able to talk him out of a suicide attempt, and placed him on an involuntary psychiatric hold, Lorenz said.
