Search for superintendent takes Glendale Unified school board to Davis

The Glendale Unified School Board appears to be nearing the end a months-long search for the district’s next superintendent.

The board held a special meeting Tuesday morning in the headquarters of the Davis Joint Unified School District, where board members planned to conduct interviews with “members of the public with reference to potential employment of an applicant for the position of superintendent of schools,” according to an agenda report.

Although not confirmed, it appears the board’s finalist for the job may be Winfred Roberson Jr., the current superintendent at Davis Joint Unified.

“No final decision has been made, and the board is still in the search process,” said Christine Walters, Glendale Unified’s school board president.

Madhavi Sunder, Davis Joint Unified’s board president, told the Davis Vanguard in a recent article that Winfred Roberson “has been named the preferred candidate for the superintendent position in a professional search by a school district in a different region.”

The Glendale school board initiated its search for a superintendent after former Glendale Unified Supt. Dick Sheehan took the top post in Covina-Valley Unified in May.

The meeting on Tuesday in Davis followed two closed-door meetings the local school board held in Glendale last week to discuss the search.
