A man stopped for jaywalking in Glendale was shot by a Glendale police officer early Friday morning after reportedly charging at the officer with a knife, officials said.

Just before 3 a.m., the officer stopped the man in his 50s, who was not identified, at Colorado Street and Glendale Avenue for jaywalking, said Glendale Police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

The man reportedly came toward the officer — who was on foot after parking his patrol car — in an aggressive manner brandishing a knife, after which the officer shot one round at the man.

The man was hit in the side of his abdomen and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Lightfoot said.

The officer, who was not identified, was not injured.

Detectives were on scene Friday morning conducting an investigation.

Further details were not immediately available. It was not immediately known whether audio or video footage of the incident was captured or whether the officer was alone.
