Double stabbing outside Glendale courthouse leaves one dead, one injured

One man is dead and another injured in connection with a double stabbing outside the Glendale courthouse early Monday morning, police said.

Just before 2 a.m., the injured victim approached the Glendale police station and used the call box to ask dispatchers for help, said Glendale Police Sgt. Robert William.

Police and paramedics responded immediately and found the man, who had been stabbed, lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

Investigators followed the trail of blood to the front of the Glendale courthouse, where a man, identified by Los Angeles County coroner’s officials as 57-year-old Alex Littlejohn, was found dead with multiple stab wounds. An autopsy is pending.

A knife was recovered somewhere within the crime scene.

“We don’t know exactly what happened between these two men,” William said, adding that whether they knew each other is unclear. “Right now, investigators are trying to piece the puzzle together.”

The man who called dispatchers was transported to the hospital, where he underwent surgery. He’s expected to survive, though details about his injuries were not available.

Investigators have not yet interviewed him as he remains hospitalized and medicated, but don’t believe there are outstanding suspects.

“There’s no evidence of a third person,” William said.

Detectives hope to review video surveillance footage from around the crime scene.

The police station lobby was closed most of Monday, though the station remained fully operational. Courthouse visitors were being asked to enter through the back, as the front entrance was closed.
