A Los Angeles woman was struck by a suspected drugged driver after attempting to cross a Glendale street Tuesday evening, according to authorities.

The 61-year-old was walking through a crosswalk at Harvard Street and Verdugo Road around 10:58 p.m. when she was hit by a black SUV. Tahnee Lightfoot, a spokeswoman for the Glendale Police Department, said the vehicle fled the scene after the collision.

The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

An officer with Glendale Community College’s police department was able to locate the vehicle off of Verdugo near Bara Road and detained the driver.

He was taken into custody by Glendale police who identified him as 44-year-old Vano Astvasaturyan. According to Lightfoot, the Glendale resident failed a field sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of hit and run as well as driving under the influence of drugs.
