Fireworks will paint the sky above La Crescenta again this year during the annual Fourth of July celebration on Monday.

Organized by the Crescenta Valley Fireworks Assn. for the 10th year running, this year’s installment has a change in venue.

The event will be held at Crescenta Valley High’s athletic field as opposed to La Crescenta Elementary because of construction.

That also brings about additional changes, said Steve Pierce, an association member.

“The good news is, the field is bigger and we can get more people there. The not-so-good news is [Crescenta Valley High] has a synthetic field, which we’re not allowed to put any chairs on,” he said.

The only chairs that are allowed are beach chairs with rounded bottoms, Pierce added.

People are also allowed to bring beach towels and pillows, he said.

Food and drinks — aside from water — also won’t be allowed on the high school field, Pierce said.

Instead, there will be a handful of food trucks on Ramsdell Avenue between Encinal and Altura avenues for people to enjoy including Slamming Sliders and Hang 10 Tacos.

The event will open at 4:30 p.m. and close by 8:30 p.m., and the fireworks display will start at 9 p.m.

This year’s live band is Stinky Felix, scheduled to perform at 6 p.m.

Despite taking place in the Foothills, the show is also the official Fourth of July celebration for the city of Glendale, which contributes funds, Pierce said.

The event has grown into a tradition in La Crescenta and, although some people watch from their backyards or the street, they’re missing out on the full experience, he said.

“People watch from their backyards, sidewalks, the Ralphs parking lot, but they don’t experience the fireworks being choreographed to patriotic music,” Pierce said.

The fireworks display typically lasts about 20 minutes, he said.

Tickets are being sold for $7 leading up to the event and $10 on the Fourth of July.

They can be picked up from Bob Smith Toyota, the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce office, and J’s Maintenance. A full list of locations can be found at cvfireworks.com.
