A Los Angeles man reportedly tried to evade arrest Monday afternoon by attempting to hide from Glendale police, authorities say.

The incident began just after 1:30 p.m. when officers from the Glendale Police Department responded to a residential burglary call in the 1900 block of Vassar Avenue, according to Tahnee Lightfoot, a spokeswoman for the department.

She said residents heard noises coming from the downstairs area of their home.

When they investigated, they realized a television was missing.

Lightfoot said a man was seen running from the area as officers arrived at the home. A perimeter was set up and police soon found a man, identified as 25-year-old Robert Rodas-Cothran, hiding in the laundry room of an apartment complex in the 1800 block of Princeton Street.

She said he was on post-released community supervision at the time of his arrest.

Officers also discovered a second robbery occurred in the 1800 block of Vassar Avenue, according to Lightfoot. She said the missing television and other stolen items were eventually recovered, having been found in the back of a home.

While searching Rodas-Cothran’s pockets, Lightfoot said police found a white powdery substance and a brown material that resembled heroin.

Rodas-Cothran has since been charged with two counts of burglary and one count of drug possession by the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

A 20-year-old woman found near where Rodas-Cothran was hiding was arrested by police on suspicion of burglary but was not charged with the crime by the district attorney’s office. The woman, Violeta Guido, is said to be his associate, according to Lightfoot.
