Death of man struck by Metrolink train ruled a suicide

The death of a 48-year-old Long Beach man fatally struck by a Metrolink passenger train in Glendale on Tuesday was ruled a suicide, coroner’s officials said.

Witnesses reported seeing the man, identified as Lawrence Leonard Gilbert, run in front of the oncoming train, said Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter.

Glendale police were called to San Fernando Road and Sonora Avenue, the scene of the collision, at 12:25 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
