SCHOLL CANYON PARK -- The Scholl Canyon Golf Course is proposing to
increase its fees by a small margin for this year. It is awaiting for
approval from the city of Glendale.
The American Golf company, that manages the course for the City, have
asked for the increase to offset the costs of maintaining the facility.
“It takes a good amount of money to keep up the golf course,” said
Scholl Canyon General Manager Mike Konjoyan. “We want to stay competitive
with the rest of the other golf courses.”
The increased fees would only affect non-American Golf Player
Association members.
Included would be a small increase in the weekday green fees for
playing 18 holes of golf for non-AGPA members, going from $13 to $16, and
from $18 to $21 on the weekends.
The twilight and super-twilight fees would be would also increase for
non-members from $12 to $13 and from $9 to $10, respectively.
On the weekend, those fees respectively jump from $15 to $16 and from
$11 to $12.
Cart fees will also be raised for both APGA members and non-members
during twilight and super-twilight hours, going from $12 to $14 and $10
and $12, respectively. The course recently purchased 60 new golf carts.
Players can avoid the price hikes by becoming an AGPA member for
$29.95 a year. That price includes discounts and benefits redeemable at
selected other courses across the U.S. managed by American Golf.
“If you look at our prices, they’re very affordable, compared with
other sites,” Konloyan said.
With Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena charging between $30 to $40
dollars eighteen holes on either of its two championship courses and
Verdugo Hills Golf Course charging $8 to $10 to play its 18 hole par-3
course, the Glendale course is in the median.
Scholl Canyon also is looking to increase its rates during weekend use
of its tennis courts, going from $4.50 to $6 an hour.
It would be the first increase in rates for the courts in five years.
