Verdugo Hills 19, Hollywood 0: Crystal Dingman hit her fourth home
run, tying the Sunset Six League record, as the Dons routed the Sheiks
Thursday at Pointsettia Park.
The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Jessica McGivney went three for five with a double, four stolen bases
and an RBI and Emily Gunto pitched a complete game and struck out nine
for Verdugo Hills (8-4-1 overall, 4-0 in league).
The Dons host L.A. Poly at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday in another league
contest.
Glendale Community College 12, L.A. Valley 3: The Vaqueros improved to
11-15 overall and 6-9 in the Western State Conference with the six-inning
mercy-rule win on the roadThursday.
Desiree Demchak (11-13) earned the victory for GCC.
Zulema Argota went two for four with two runs batted in. Justine
Takizawa had three hits and Julie Choi had two hits for the Vaqueros.
BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD
Hoover 64, Pasadena 63: The Tornadoes (2-5, 1-2) squeezed by the
Bulldogs in a Pacific League meet at home Thursday.
Junior Efrain Olivares won the mile (4 minutes 46.8 seconds) and the
two-mile (10:40.1).
Yoojin Kim won the 110-meter high hurdles (16.6)
Artin Fiterz took the shot put (41 fee 7 inches).
Dennis Bernardo won the pole vault at 11 feet, and had a personal best
in the triple jump going 40-7.
Eric Schnitger won the 880 in 2:08.1.
St. Francis 108, Chaminade 17: The Golden Knights (2-2) dominated the
Eagles in a Mission League meet at Occidental College Thursday.
St. Francis opened the meet on a good note as its 400-meter relay team
clocked 43.9 seconds. Clay Wolflick, Jared Vander Cook, Kenny Garcia and
Matt Milton ran on the relay.
Freshman Kevin Herron won the 400 meters (51.6).
Vander Cook took the 300 intermediate hurdles (42.9).
Wolflick won the 200 (22.9). Brett Mitchell was victorious in the long
jump (20 feet 8 inches) and Nathan Terrazone (45-3).
GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD
Hoover 63, Pasadena 55: Anita Siraki ran just one event, but the
Tornadoes (2-5, 1-2) still had enough to get by the Bulldogs in a
Pacific League meet Thursday.
Resting her for Saturday’s Arcadia Invitational, Siraki only ran in
the mile relay.
Laura Zung won the 1,600 in six minutes 32.1 seconds. She came back to
win the 3,200 (15:24).
Ailin Fiterz won the 400 in 1:06.3.
Diana Pakradoun won the 100 high hurdles (18.4) and the high jump
(four feet eight inches).
Her sister, Jennifer, won the pole vault (6-6).
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Glendale Community College 5, Citrus 4: The Vaqueros improved to 6-8
with the home victory Thursday.
Citrus, which had just four players, had to forfeit three points.
But the Vaqueros came up with the other two to clinch the match.
GCC No. 4 singles player Rubina Khatchaturian won 6-0, 6-1 over Marisa
Lospenmato.
GCC’s other victory was in doubles, as Ani Balabegian and Lilet
Navarro won 6-4, 6-1 over Christy Loun and Lospenmato.
