Foothill Leader returns to La Crescenta
Judee Kendall
For the past seven years, the Foothill Leader, along with its sister
newspapers the Glendale News-Press and Burbank Leader, has been owned by
the Times Mirror Co. All three of these community newspapers are part of
Times Community News, which became a division of The Los Angeles Times
just a year ago. During this time, we have formed a close business
partnership with The Times and have found ways of working together that
benefit our readers and advertisers as well as our newspapers.
Last year, we combined the delivery of the Glendale News-Press and
Burbank Leader with delivery of The Los Angeles Times. Some of our
subscribers in La Crescenta have told us they missed the Leader.
I am happy to inform you that beginning Wednesday, May 10, we will
combine the delivery of the Foothill Leader with The Times. We will
continue to deliver the same number of newspapers each week as we do now.
Some free distribution of the Foothill Leader will continue. However,
this free distribution will be moved periodically.
Here is how this new method of distribution will work for you, our
readers.
* Beginning May 10, the only way you will be guaranteed a copy of the
Foothill Leader is by subscribing to The Los Angeles Times or by
purchasing The Times at a newsstand.
* Residents of La Canada Flintridge, Sunland and Tujunga who subscribe
to The Los Angeles Times will begin receiving the Foothill Leader free
with their L.A. Times each Wednesday and Saturday beginning May 10.
* La Canada Flintridge, Sunland and Tujunga residents who subscribe to
The Los Angeles Times and the Foothill Leader will simply receive both
papers packaged together, delivered by their L.A. Times carrier. You will
receive both papers for the price of The Times.
* If you are a subscriber to the Foothill Leader and do not receive
The Los Angeles Times, we will convert your Leader subscription to a Los
Angeles Times subscription and you will receive the Leader with The Times
for the price of The Times.
* Los Angeles Times subscribers in La Crescenta (ZIP code 91214) are
receiving the Glendale News-Press Monday through Saturday with their Los
Angeles Times. Beginning May 10, the News-Press will be replaced by the
Foothill Leader only on Wednesday and Saturday. La Crescenta residents
will continue to receive the Glendale News-Press with The Times on
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
* News-Press subscribers who do not live in the 91214 ZIP code will not see any change.
By making this change, we hope to give our foothill area readers more
extensive coverage of their communities and our advertisers continuous
reach across the foothill communities. Your Foothill Leader will be a
more complete community newspaper.
It will still contain 100% local news. It will continue to have
Community Forum pages, news about youth sports, city government and local
people and issues.
Of course, you will still be able to turn to the classified
advertising section to find jobs, merchandise and automobiles for sale,
among other things. Your real estate section will continue to be included
Saturday, and throughout the paper the ads will lead you to local
shopping and services.
We see this change as a tremendous advantage to our readers. Now you
can have the news of the community in which you live along with the
broader county, state, national and international news contained in the
Pulitzer Prize-winning Los Angeles Times.
Please feel free to call or write Editor John Francis, Senior Editor
Michael Hart or myself with any questions or concerns. You may reach us
