Glendale students do well in county meet

ROSEMEAD -- Top performers from the district’s math field day rose to

the challenge by placing in the top three spots in several categories of

the county Math Field Day competition.

Five teams with four students each in fourth- through eighth-grade

made the journey to Garvey Intermediate School in Rosemead on Saturday to

compete against 400 students from 21 participating school districts.

The sixth-grade team aced the competition in the algebra and function

contest and the eighth-grade team won first in the measure and geometry

contest.

The sixth-grade team tied for second with Palos Verdes in the measure

and geometry contest. The fourth-grade team took second in the numbers

sense competition and the measure and geometry contest. The eighth-grade

team tied with Walnut Valley for second place in statistics and data

analysis.

The sixth-grade team placed third in the numbers sense contest and

tied with South Pasadena in the statistics, data analysis and probability

contest. The fourth-grade team placed third in algebra and function.

Participating students included Arno Abramyan, Nora Bedrossian, Ian

Lee-Chang, Valerie Pintar, Leah Chang, Carissa Derksen, Chris Kim, Artin

Laleian, Farid Alikhani, Peter Kim, Jason Lee, Amasia Zargarian, Chris

Anderson, Ani Avagyan, Chris Ohanian, Amaras Zargarian, Lily Chung,

Tomoyuki Matsushima, Anna Schnitger and Anthony Visessonchok.
