Congratulations

Michael Boukidis, the son of Constantine M. Boukidis of Glendale, was

the top ticket seller for the Verdugo Hills Council’s Scout-O-Rama held

on May 20.

Boukidis sold 530 tickets over a six-week period, which helped raise

funds for the Scouting programs. About 9,000 Scouts from three districts

competed.

The Scout-O-Rama is held each year to show the community the great

activities Scouts do. The competition for top seller was held between the

Tiger Cub Scouts, Cub Scouts, Webelos, Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts.

Boukidis takes after his father. In 1969, Constantine Boukidis won the

top seller award as a Webelos I scout from the Verdugo Hills Council.

Boukidis is a fourth grader at Verdugo Woodlands Elementary School and

a member of Cub Scout Pack 131. He is also a Webelos I.

The San Fernando Alumnae Assn. of Kappa Delta presented a $5,000 KiDs

grant to the San Fernando Valley Girl Scout Council May 23. The Girl

Scouts will use the grant to expand and renovate the facilities at Camp

Lakota in the Los Padres National Forest.

Members of the sorority include president Marie Kaden of Burbank, Judy

Ritchie and Denise Pinto of Glendale, Zona Beale of La Canada Flintridge,

Mary Guy of Sunland and Jayne Cox of Tujunga.

The National Council of Kappa Delta provided the grant as part of

their focus on “KiDs...the heart of the community.” KiDs provides a

framework for alumnae to expand their community work with children.

The grant will provide running water and electricity to Camp Lakota’s

Program Center and help to renovate the Pool House shower facilities. The

Program Center will be renamed for the sorority.

The Glendale Art Assn. gave scholarships to worthy art students for

the 1999-2000 school year.

The winners were:

Glendale High School, art teacher Judith Cramer, first place, Hayk

Manukyan; second place, Andrea Bagiu; third place, Juan Navarro; and

honorable mention, Christine Semana;

Hoover High School, art teacher Helen Jorjorian, first place, Angela

Juarez; second place, Ha Jin An; third place, Artem Golestian; and

honorable mention, Anush Khachatryan and Sam Nojati;

Clark Magnet High School, art teacher, Judith Cramer, first place,

Adam Wing; second place, Sapideh Or; third place, Joseph B. Koo; and

honorable mention, Sarkis Grigoryan and Saiedeh Or.

Philanthropist and International Orthodox Christian Charities chairman

of the board Charles R. Ajalat of Glendale, was honored May 21 at the

Sixth Annual Pan Orthodox Grand Banquet in Niles, Ill.

Ajalat has contributed extensively to the work of organization. Under

his leadership, more than $100 million in humanitarian aid has been

provided to people in need from as far away as Mozambique and Serbia.

He also served as chairman and chief executive officer of Orthodox

Charities from 1991 to 1992.

He was presented with a crystal globe plaque by banquet chair Elias

Zimianitis.

The charity was established in 1992 and is the official humanitarian

aid agency of the Orthodox Christians working in cooperation with the

Orthodox churches all over the world.
