Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation has announced the winners of the
2000 Janet Banz Memorial Scholarship for four outstanding student
volunteers at a presentation breakfast.
The annual scholarship was established by the Banz family as a tribute
to Janet Banz, a nine-year veteran volunteer in the Emergency Department
at Verdugo Hills Hospital.
Students receiving $1,000 scholarships are Sarah Beth Smith and Diane
Lee of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, Laurie Beth Juarez Morales of
Glendale Adventist Academy and Lisa Narinian of Glendale Community
College.
Recipients are selected on academic merit and must have volunteered
for at least one year in order to qualify for consideration.
Erika Frazer of Glendale won a bronze medal in the Sparring Division
of the TaeKwonDo National Junior Olympics 2000 in San Antonio, Texas,
July 10 through 15.
A student of Dae Myung TaeKwonDo Academy in Glendale, Erika’s coach is
Master James Park, the son of the founder of the academy.
Erika has been studying TaeKwonDo martial arts for three years.
Earlier this year, she won a gold medal at the LA Open Championship and a
bronze medal at the Southern California Junior Olympics.
Tiffany J. Harris of Glendale received her juris doctor degree from
Marquette University in Wisconsin.
Two Glendale students made the Scholastic Honor Roll during the spring
term at Oregon State University.
They are Bryan D. Riffel, a senior, majoring in engineering; and Steve
M. Yaeger, a senior, majoring in engineering.
Jennifer Ann Sinatra of Glendale was awarded a bachelor’s degree cum
laude at Bowdoin College. A graduate of Glendale High School, Sinatra
majored in biology and minored in economics.
