PTA volunteers: valuable and needed

With Glendale schools scheduled to start up soon, local PTAs are once

more in need of the lifeblood of the organizations -- volunteers.

Every year, Glendale Parent-Teacher Assn. activists is donate tens of

thousands of hours toward bettering our schools and their children’s

education. The rewards reaped both by students and the community at large

are incalculable.

The PTA raises thousands of dollars toward school-related causes.

Volunteers organize events ranging from book drives to after-prom

parties. PTA Council activists sit on hiring boards for new principals or

panels examining curricula. At the regional and state levels, volunteers

help develop and administer PTA policies and encourage legislators to

consider bills that would benefit schools. This is just a smattering of

the fine work of the who make up the PTA.

The News-Press wishes to take this time to thank our PTA volunteers

for their worthy efforts. Glendale schools are all the better for their

dedication and service.

We also encourage everyone who qualifies to volunteer with the PTA

(parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents and educators) but has not yet done

so to attend at least one PTA meeting and see where their help is needed.

You’ll be surprised at the challenging opportunities that are available.

Giving of your time to the PTA is rewarding, it’s fun, it’s badly

needed and it’s a noble endeavor. If you’ve been thinking about doing it,

now’s a great time to start.

If you want more information about local PTAs, you can call Council

President Joylene Wagner at 246-0163.
