CHEVY CHASE ESTATES -- Firefighters from Glendale, Burbank and
Pasadena worked quickly to contain a 10-acre fire at Scholl Canyon Park
by 6:30 p.m. Sunday, said Chief Steve Howard, Fire Department Public
Information Officer.
There were no injuries or structural damage from the fire, Howard
said.
The fire department received an alert regarding the grass fire at 4:30
p.m. The call was made by a park visitor from a pay phone. The cause of
the grass fire was not known.
The Glendale Fire Department dispatched 10 fire engines and one truck
to the scene in the canyon just beyond the baseball fields. The Pasadena
Fire Department sent one fire engine.
Glendale Fire also received assistance from the Los Angeles County
system, which sent one fire engine and three helicopters. In the canyon,
camp crews worked to clear brush and create a clean path from “burn to
unburn,” Howard said.
Fire units kept the media away from the fire zone until the fire
became manageable, shortly after 6 p.m. Only one structure -- a brick
pump house -- was threatened, but firefighters had the fire under control
so that the structure and the surrounding power lines received no damage.
