BEST BET The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is hosting its

fourth annual “The Ultimate Drive” in partnership with BMW from 10 a.m.

to 6 p.m. Thursday at Pacific BMW, 732 S. Brand Blvd. People can test

drive BMW’s on a predetermined course. Glendale resident Alever Jones

will be honored at 1 p.m. for her outstanding community service in the

fight against breast cancer. Food and refreshments will be served. For

every mile driven, BMW is donating $1 to the foundation for breast cancer

It’s time for the fourth annual “Senior Sun & Fun Day” from 9:30 a.m.

Charter Communications and MTV will hold a “Choose or Lose 2000” voter

registration drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the San Gabriel Plaza at

Glendale Community College, 1500 N. Verdugo Road. There will be an MTV

tent set up for registering people to vote and stress the importance of

voting and voters issues. Prizes will be given to those who attend who

Descanso Gardens Art Gallery invites you to attend an exhibit of clay

sculptures and oil and watercolor paintings from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at

1418 Descanso Drive, in La Canada Flintridge. Decorative and functional

pottery from Los Angeles residents Daniel and Marcelle Tolkoff will be on

display and for sale Tuesdays through Thursdays, until Sept. 21. Many of

the clay sculptures are modeled after ancient Chinese bronzes. For more

The Brand Library & Art Center is showcasing the work of two local

artists from 1 to 6 p.m. in the foyer of the library, at 1601 W. Mountain St. Jane Watson of Glendale displays beadwork and Angela de Mott exhibits

her handcrafted Raku ceramics. Raku is a Japanese ceramic process that

uses fire and air for glazing. The artists’ works are for sale and 25% of

proceeds go to the Brand Associates in support of the library and special

programs. The exhibit will be on display Tuesdays through Saturdays, at

Glendale Memorial Hospital’s 50-Plus Department is holding Caregiving

Support Group from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Senior Services Center, 1330 S.

Glendale Ave. The groups will be held the first and third Wednesday of

Glendale Centre Theatre presents a performance of “Brigadoon” at 8

p.m. at 324 N. Orange St. “Brigadoon” is the heartwarming story of a

magical Scottish village that only appears every 100 years. The musical

is a humorous, touching love story that had its first run on Broadway on

April 13, 1947. “Brigadoon” will run Wednesdays through Saturdays until

THURSDAY The Glendale Chapter of the MOMS Club (Moms Offering Moms

Support) will host speaker Ann Hyde at 10 a.m. at the Glendale American

Red Cross, 1501 S. Brand Blvd. Hyde is owner of the Center for Developing

Kids in Pasadena, which offers consultation, evaluation and treatment of

infants and children with autism, neuromuscular dysfunction and speech

delays. Hyde will discuss developmental milestones in young children. For

Glendale Adventist Medical Center’s “Beyond Loss, A Bereavement

Ministry,” holds its weekly Adult Grief Support Group at 1509 Wilson

Terrace. Paulette Chapman and Rita Patirka will counsel adults who are

experiencing any kind of loss, such as death, health, work, home, etc.

The program runs every Monday at 6 p.m., and Thursdays from 10 to 11

Soroptimist International of Glendale holds a meeting at noon at the

Glendale Hilton Hotel 100 W. Glenoaks Blvd. The program will cover the

Glendale Adventist Medical Center offers the “Fit for Childbirth”

class from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the hospital’s 1500 Building at 1500

Chevy Chase Drive. The class is open to women who are at least 12 weeks

pregnant. A low-impact aerobic class provides mothers-to-be with the

opportunity to strengthen and tone their bodies, increase their

flexibility, relieve back pain and learn more about the body’s physical

changes during pregnancy. Classes meet every Tuesday and Thursday and

there is a $5 fee per class. Participants need a verbal clearance from

their OB/GYN physicians before joining. For more information, call

The ALPHA Program is held Thursdays from 6:45 to 9:45 p.m. in the

family room at Glendale Presbyterian Church, 120 S. Louise Ave. The

10-week fall program will run through December and is designed to

familiarize people with the Christian faith, through learning, laughter

Glendale Adventist Medical Center will offer a “Freedom From Smoking”

class beginning today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Classroom B at 1500 E. Chevy

Chase Drive. The program assists smokers unable to quit by emphasizing

behavioral changes. The program will run Mondays and Thursdays through

this month and finish on Oct. 7. The cost for the whole program is $75,

FRIDAY Glendale Sunrise Rotary will meet from 7 to 8:30 a.m. at the

Glendale Hilton Hotel, 100 W. Glenoaks Blvd. The featured speaker today

will be Beth Carrigan, an advocate for the emotional wellness of seniors

and executive director for the Light Heart Foundation. She will speak

about challenges facing the elderly and share resourceful information for

The League of Women Voters, Glendale-Burbank is holding a Pros and

Cons Forum at 7 p.m. in the Burbank City Council chambers, 275 E. Olive

Ave. in Burbank. The forum will cover all ballot initiatives and bond

Glendale’s Goode House Center is offering a beginner Spanish class at
