ESTHER JOHANNE HOLMOE
Esther Johanne Holmoe, 77, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in Glendale.
Mrs. Holmoe was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Hollywood, to Gust and Frieda
Wennstrom.
Mrs. Holmoe’s interests were art, literature and foreign language. She
graduated from Marshall High School and went to stenographer’s school,
before becoming the executive assistant to the president of Sun Life
Insurance Co.
In 1946, Mrs. Holmoe married Ivan Holmoe, owner of a well-known
Glendale barbershop, and kept the books and did laundry for the shop for
almost 50 years. The Holmoes met in the Salem Lutheran Church youth group
and were members of the church for more than 60 years.
Mrs. Holmoe and her husband lived in the Glendale and La Crescenta
areas, where they raised their children, Bonnie, Steve and Tom. Mrs.
Holmoe was a gourmet cook, who enjoyed entertaining family and friends at
her home.
For many years, Mrs. Holmoe sent greeting cards to members of her
church who were sick or grieving. She was devoted to her family and her
faith.
Mrs. Holmoe was a sports fan who enjoyed attending the sporting events
of her two sons. Although she was wheelchair bound for the last 10 years
of her life, her spirit never faltered and her smile never faded.
Survivors include her husband, Ivan; children, Bonnie and her husband
Neil, Stephen, Tom and his wife Lori; grandchildren, Shannon, Danny, Erik
and Lauren; brother, Bud Wennstrom and his wife Betty.
Celebration of Life services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem
Lutheran Church, 1211 N. Brand Blvd.
ARTHUR PEEBLES
Arthur Peebles, 84, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001.
Mr. Peebles was born in Burma, and was a longtime resident of
Glendale.
Survivors include his wife, Valeria Teresa Peebles; daughter, Jean
McEndarfer; and grandchildren, Luke and Erin McEndarfer.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today in the Garden Chapel of
Woods-Scovern Mortuary, 511 S. Central Ave. The Recitation of the Rosary
will be at 7 p.m. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10
a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 220 E. Elk Ave. Committal
services will take place immediately after the Mass at San Fernando
Mission Cemetery, 11160 Stranwood Ave. in Mission Hills.
