‘Hay Fever’ opens
at A Noise Within
“Hay Fever” by Noel Coward opens this weekend produced by A Noise
Within, Glendale’s classical theater company.
Directed by Art Manke, co-artistic director, the play is about the
highly independent and overtly bohemian Bliss family. Actress Judith and
novelist David are prone to elaborate parlor games, artistic outbursts
and hysterical indulgences. Four guests expecting a romantic weekend in
the country are instead treated to “Blissful” eccentricities and
unorthodox hospitality in this 1925 comedy of very bad manners.
The play continues through May 24, in repertory with Shakespeare’s
“The Comedy of Errors.”
Ticket prices range from $16 to $40 and can be reserved by calling
(323) 953-7795. The theater is at 234 S. Brand Blvd. in Glendale.
THEATER ARTS
“The Comedy of Errors”
produced by A Noise Within
Guest director Danny Scheie, former artistic director of Shakespeare
Santa Cruz, stages his signature production of “The Comedy of Errors”
performed by A Noise Within in Glendale.
Shakespeare’s dizzying farce of mistaken identity is set into
centrifugal motion when Antipholus and his servant Dromio of Syracuse,
arrive in Ephesus -- unbeknownst to them the home of their long lost twin
brother -- a town filled with courtesans, money-grubbing merchants, witch
doctors and enchantment.
Scheie’s production is unique in the concept he uses for having each
set of twins played by a single actor.
For show times and dates, call (323) 953-7795. Tickets range from $16
to $40, and A Noise Within is at 234 S. Brand Blvd. Glendale.
‘West Side Story’
ends run today
“West Side Story” ends its run with two shows at 3 and 8 p.m. today at
The Glendale Centre Theatre.
Directed by Tom Robinson, it’s the story of star-crossed lovers on the
verge of finding happiness together only to meet with tragedy. Based on
Shakespeare’s classic “Romeo and Juliet,” the musical carries this
historical thread into the modern world, infusing the age-old tale with
contemporary details. Highlights are the memorable songs like “Tonight,”
“Maria,” and “Somewhere,” by Leonard Bernstein and Steven Sondheim.
Tickets range from $16 to $19 with senior rates available. For
reservations, call 244-8481.
