Student wins music contest

LA CRESCENTA -- A Rosemont Middle School student won the soloist
competition at the 14th annual Middle School Honor Band and Orchestra
Concert.
Layla Habahbeh competed against three other middle school students in
the soloist competition of the concert, which was sponsored by the
Glendale Host Lions Club.
Habahbeh won for her piano performance of Aaron Copland’s “The Cat and
the Mouse.” The Lions Club donated $500 to be used as music scholarships
for the four finalists.
More than 200 students participated during the concert, which was
attracted more than 600 people.
Vic Guder, district honors music coordinator, also was honored for his
service to the district. He will be retiring this year.
