Flintridge Sacred Heart dealt another tough loss

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- Senior midfielder Jessica Hanson tallied two

goals and an assist, including a breakaway tally in the 79th minute, but

the Tologs fell just short against defending Mission League champion

Chaminade in Thursday’s match at home.

Hanson -- who is tied with Flintridge Prep freshman Coco Kleinert for

the area lead with 27 points -- scored in the 31st minute off an assist

from Erin Marshall to cut Chaminade’s lead to 2-1, and then assisted on

Jackie Fisher’s goal in the 54th minute to trim the deficit to 3-2.

Lindsey Weening and Tina Lutizetti gave Chaminade (14-5-1, 3-1-1 in league) an early 2-0 lead, with Nasrin Pak assisting on both goals. Pak

tallied the Eagles’ third goal after heading in a corner kick in the 48th

minute.

Flintridge Sacred Heart (6-6-1, 1-3 in league) yielded the eventual

match-winning goal in the 62nd minute as Cassidy Runyan received a pass

from Corie Spencer and beat Tolog goalkeeper Nicole Yonai in the upper

right corner of the net.

And despite Hanson’s late goal -- her 11th of the season -- Flintridge

Sacred Heart couldn’t forge a tie.

“The toughest thing for a team is to learn how to win,” said Tolog

co-Coach Frank Pace, whose squad dropped its fourth one-goal decision to

Chaminade in the teams’ past five meetings.

“We play war after war after war in this league and continue to come

up short. But the tide is going to turn where we’re going to win one of

these wars pretty soon.”

Chaminade -- which has won CIF Southern Section titles four of the

past five years and league titles four of the past six -- was able to

rebound from a loss to league front-runner Harvard-Westlake and a tie

with Louisville to earn the victory, despite being without sweeper Meghan

Powers, who received a red card in the Eagles’ previous match.
