Walkin’ for dollars
Maria Macial, 11, a student at R.D. White Elementary School, is
looking forward to the sixth-grade trip to Catalina Island in the spring.
To help pay for the trip, Maria joined other students at R.D. White
Tuesday for the school’s annual walkathon, an event sponsored by the R.D.
White-Glendale Foundation. The foundation is a group of seven mothers of
R.D. White students who provide enrichment and financial support to
students. Groups of students took turns walking, jogging and skipping
through the school yard Tuesday, while stereo speakers played music from
Carlos Santana and Shania Twain. Carol Attarian, a member of the Founders
group and mother of Mark, a third-grade student at R.D. White, said
events like Tuesday’s “Walk for White” allow for the purchases of such
things asplayground equipment, books, art supplies, bookshelves and
auditorium sound systems.
