NORTHWEST GLENDALE -- A burning mattress is being blamed for an early
morning fire that caused $50,000 in damage to an apartment.
The fire started about 4:20 a.m. Sunday inside an apartment in the
1800 block of North Verdugo Road, fire officials said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it appeared to
be accidental, Glendale Fire Marshal Steve Howard said.
Smoke from the mattress fire filled the entire apartment, Howard said.
It took firefighters about 10 minutes to put out the fire, which
caused $10,000 in structural damage and $40,000 damage to the apartment’s
contents.
No injuries or fatalities were reported.
